how it begins

Shadow of Love is an insert song from the anime NANA. It is sung by
Olivia Lufkin, who sings as Serizawa Reira, the beautiful vocalist from
infamous Trapnest music group in the anime.

The music was first introduced in episode 32 of the anime, where Reira was given duty to write the lyrics for Trapnest's upcoming single. That night, Reira was staying in a hotel, and invited Okazaki Shinichi (her secret lover, from the rival band Black Stones) to come by. Reira was very confused because she had to write a love song that could make people cry, while the band was scheduled to begin recording within hours. She wanted to procrastinate from the job, but Shin told her to concentrate and start writing.

She then began listening to the music Honjou Ren composed and humming. (I fell in love with the tunes instantly!) However, not long after, her tears fell down as she felt Ren's ingenius music would go for a waste with her superficial love story. Shin then complimented her and assured her that Trapnest's popularity among girls must have been because they were touched by the love stories that Reira sang. And after some, ahem, loving, Reira managed to write nice lyrics for the song.

Since the anime is an adaptation of the manga, you can also find the similar scene in manga chapter 27. The difference is that in the manga, the song is originally entitled Trust.

Well, even the music alone got me attached easily. And after Olivia's enchanting voice was heard, I just got to love this song even more.
